To highlight the differences one has to be proficient in all of the software programs and must be using the software on a daily basis.  For this we had to turn to the team at Skygate Media www.skygatemedia.com.  They have an uncanny eye for web design site  and regularly use 3 D effects into their designer website production line. The favored program, taking into account user friendliness, render speed, 64bit architecture utilization during render as well as core render scalability.  Programs like 3DS Max utilize all 6 cores (12 threads) to push through a render.  Also it is very important to note that it is the CPU that is running through the calculations and not the graphics card.   Many get confused and associate the ability to render graphics with a graphics card.  This is not the case.  The graphics card only has to do with viewport performance.
Softimage was recently bought out by Autodesk as well as Maya and therefore it is easy to assume that the software architecture is fully capable but only as far as Autodesk will allow.  Our assumption that the software is only as capable as the price tag could be the correct assumption.  This remains to be seen, however we will explore this in further detail. This software was built for aspiring game developers and grants them the ability to modify 3 D architecture within the Mod Tool.  The poly mesh mapping is geared toward the ability to render characters and animate them.
